The Éire Society of Boston awarded the 2019 Gold Medal to Kathleen M. O'Toole, former Massachusetts Secretary of Public Safety and Boston Police Commissioner.
Kathleen M. O'Toole is a career police officer and lawyer with an international reputation for principled effective leadership and reform. In 2017, she chaired the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland. In 1998–1999, she was a member of the Independent Commission on Policing in Northern Ireland (the Patten Commission), which published recommendations that transformed policing there as part of the Peace Process.
